IV Conscious Sedation

Periodontal Surgeons are trained in all aspects of anesthesia administration. During intensesurgical training, periodontal residents complete a lengthy rotation in anesthesiology, during which time they become competent in evaluating patients for anesthesia, delivering anesthetic and monitoring post-anesthetic patients.

As a result of this specialized training, Periodontists are well-prepared to identify, diagnose
and assess sources of pain and anxiety and to appropriately administer local anesthesia and all
forms of sedation. They are also experienced in airway management, endotracheal intubation,
establishing and maintaining intravenous lines and managing complications and emergencies that
may arise during the administration of anesthesia.

At Coastal Empire Periodontics, our surgical staff is experienced and well trained in assisting
with IV sedation. All patients are fully monitored throughout surgery. Our entire staff is certified
annually in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Our office is certified for administration
of outpatient IV Sedation by the Georgia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons for the
State of Georgia Board of Dental Examiners.
